Active Shooter Response

Subjects Covered: The job of the first responding Officer, the how and when of perimeters, how to establish and entry point and evacuation corridor, and the mission of follow on officers. Officers will learn single and team tactics for Active Shooters, deliberate and dynamic techniques for dealing with the variety of floor plan situations encountered in schools. The Officers will learn to deal with doorways, hallways, stairwells, large open areas, entering through the breach point, dealing with limited visibility conditions, gas and smoke. Officers will be trained in improvised explosives recognition and avoidance. Also taught will be coordination with follow on emergency personnel, and conducting evacuations and emergency treatment while still under an active threat. The majority of the class will stress the first Officer and Follow On Officer Teams moving safely, assertively, and decisively to engage and neutralize the active threat, thereby preventing the further loss of innocent life. Also covered will be equipment selection to counter and neutralize the Active Shooter / Terrorist threat.
